CALL FOR A NEW EVS PROJECT “DIFFERENT BUT EQUAL”

Different but Equal” is a long-term EVS project that aims to prevent marginalization of disadvantaged children and young people by involving them in leisure education activities.

Project activities: 01/10/2016 – 30/06/2017 (9 months)

Activities will be carried out by a group of 10 volunteers from Portugal, Spain, Italy, Poland and France (2 from each country). The project takes place in 2 different towns, which are 20 km apart: Mărăşeşti and Focşani. Our target groups are subject to the same risk of social exclusion, but have different profiles, so we intend to unfold the activities as follows:

  • 6 volunteers to work with children and youngsters (4-18 years) with special education needs suffering from various sensory and cognitive disabilities in the School Center for Inclusive Education “Elena Doamna” Focsani.
  • 4 volunteers to work with children and youngsters (6-18 years) with fewer opportunities facing educational difficulties, social and economic difficulties, Roma children, in 2 schools from Mărăşeşti town.

The project takes place in 2 different towns, which are 20 km apart: Mărăşeşti and Focşani.

Volunteer tasks:

  • plan, organize and implement afterschool workshops where they will carry out leisure education activities such as: painting, drawing, modeling, handmade decoration, recycling, and sports activities: chess, football, volleyball, table tennis, basketball, badminton;
  • support in coordinating local volunteers willing to get involved in activities with disadvantaged children and youth;
  • writing weekly reports/articles where they describe their volunteer experience.

Volunteer profile           

  • We are looking for volunteers who are dynamic, creative, sociable, willing to spend time with children and patient in working with them;
  • The volunteers should be 18 -30 years old and should not have bad habits;
  • They should be motivated, willing to learn Romanian, able to work in a team, be flexible and creative and open to different cultures. The volunteers should have a non-discriminatory attitude.

Food and Accommodation

The volunteer will live in a flat accommodation (one in Mărăşeşti and one in Focşani), in shared bedrooms, individual beds, with common area, shared cooking, washing, laundry and social facilities. Volunteers will receive a monthly food allowance of 100 Euro and a monthly allowance of 60 Euro in form of “pocket money”. EVS volunteers will work 6 hours per day, 5 days a week, two consecutive days off per week and two days holiday per month during the project.
